Robin Cohen Music

Robin Cohen Biography

Robin began her musical career at the age of 8 with guitar lessons. Her talent and interest deepened over time. Studying at Clark University, with a minor in classical guitar, took her to a serious level with her music. She followed up with master class at Tanglewood Institute in Mass, studying with Edward Flower, a renowned performer and teacher. While there, she performed with the Tangelwood Classical Guitar Quartet. She continued to study with Flower in Ithaca, NY, participating in advanced classical guitar studies and ensembles. She traveled next to Paris to study and play with a variety of European muscians including a band called Bien Entendu. Bien Entendu performed in the Loire Valley.
Some of the major musical influences in Robins life include: J.S. Bach, Matteo Carcassi, Bonnie Rait, Joni Mitchell, Crosby Stills, Nash and Young, Van Morrison, Shaw Calvin, The Band, The Indigo Girls, and Christopher Thile.
All long the way, just for fun, Robin developed a passion for radically different instrument, the harmonica. With "harp" in the hand, Robin jammed at college campuses and folk festivals across the country, sitting in with musicians, and becoming familiar with accompaniment for all types of music from Folk, Blues, and Rock n' Roll. Professionally, Robin added her harmonica talents to various bands including Miss All the Fun in Philly, Commonbond in D.C., and The Bobbo Max Blues Band in South Jersey.
Six years ago, Robin branched out again, adding mandolin to her credentials. Her devotion and love for the instrument are evident. She describes it as "an old friend who has come home".
Now and then you will find Robin behind a keyboard laying down some music to accompany her fellow musicians...more to come on that.
For 3 years, Robin merged her talents with singer-songwriter, Sue Bailey, to form Sweet Namaste. "It's about a union, a desire to share and perform- creating a space for people to feel happy and be a part of something really fun that leaves them with a good feeling at their core" says Robin .They played at listening room in PA and NJ at places like the Tin Angel, Puck, and the Audubon Auction House. They also took their music outside to Concerts Under The Stars in Upper Merion, Sundown Music Series in the Park, Haddon Heights, NJ, Upper Providence Music in the Park and New Year's Eve at the First Night Haddonfield.
Robin is currently playing with the Roadshow Relics, a 60s and 70s Classic Rock band with some originals tunes mixed in.
As a composer, Robin is just beginning to share her works. Movin' On can be found on her CD. New music is emerging.
Robin weaves intricate detail into songs with all of her instruments, perfectly complementing the vocals and other instrumentation being played. Her riffs fill the musical pocket. Watching audiences "melt into the music" by singing along, tapping their feet, smiling or even daydreaming is the magic of the music for Robin. "Playing and performing is a place to always feel good." That's Robin's motto.
